     The Forge Newsletter - 2nd Quarter 2010

Well it's the dog days of summer once more. It’s Independence Day weekend and we have a lot to be thankful for.
I was packing a lunch for work the other morning when I noticed a few pieces of bread we had left had spoiled; it was moldy on
the crust. Needless to say, I didn't have a sandwich at noon that day for I had to throw the bread away. Then it got me to thinking, as
I normally do.
Life’s like stale bread sometimes. It's hard, crusty, has a loss of flavor, can be monotonous at times, and a bit boring. When times
are like that, and hurdles seem to be everywhere, I'm convinced that's when we need lean on the Lord the most. I truly believe He
cherishes the times when we talk to Him, seek His advice when things go wrong, when you feel like you're at the bottom of the well.
I can't speak for Cindy, but I feel like I'm there. I trust in what the Lord says, has said and done, and know He’ll never leave me.
Yet, there's a price to pay when you accept Christ in your life. My wife and I know we’re called to this Ministry. And we know He
has great things in store for us, for He has said so, but our relatives and children have shunned us for our faith. We've come to the
conclusion that we can do little about that. For what’s the alternative when you're a Christian? What's there to go back to, a life of sin
and damnation? I have a saying I often use, it is: “I'd rather go to heaven without ‘em than hell with ‘em.” (I feel in my spirit that's
going to speak volumes for many reading this Newsletter)
For you see, when we go through trials and tribulations it's for a reason. Sometimes we don't know why. We may learn why at
some given point, but then again we may never. Life’s indeed like stale bread at times. It may be edible, but not desirable. (I'll let
that sink in for a while)
I recently had hernia surgery that I'm healing up quite well from, but Cindy’s about to face gallbladder surgery and she's concerned.
The surgeon plans to remove it and your prayers for her would be appreciated.
We're both still gainfully employed. Thank God for that, for millions in America can't say that. (There's always something to be
thankful for though)
My wife and mother say I have the gift of gab, but I think I’ll keep this Newsletter brief this time.
I don't have any shared testimonies this go round. But please know we’re still hard at work spreading the gospel to those poor
souls in need.
I recently got an e-mail from one of our partners in Myanmar. The e-mail contained several photos of their small Bible school.
One was of their growing library. That warmed my heart because we’re helping them construct that of which they cannot do on their
own. Yet as I scrolled down through the photos I became humble and pretty much lost concern of my moldy existence when I saw
photographs of their living quarters. They live in a shack, you might say. They literally bathe in a concrete containment tube.
I can see why they're so appreciative of the books we send, because they’re educating themselves with “The Good News.”
I’m not bashful when it comes to telling others what we do, and believe me we get a range of emotions with those type
conversations.
I told someone the other day we’re helping build a Christian library in a California State Penitentiary. Needless to say, that
individual didn't believe me. They more than once quoted, “What about separation of church and state?” They claimed to be a
believer, yet their skepticism was on full display. I simply said my God can get around any obstacle. Although we can’t send books to
the prisoners we can send them to the Chaplain. He then, in turn, takes them to the facilities Chapel library that's being constructed.
This all began a little over a year ago when we received a letter from a prisoner there stating he was locked up with 900 other men and
they had a Chapel library started, but no books. He said the state couldn't help him, and asked if we could ~ we have and continue to.
At last count, we have sent them well over 3,000 Christian books and Bibles. For you see there will always be hurdles in life, but my
God can conquer all.
